In collaboration with Bruderer UK, the industry leader in high precision stamping presses and a market leader in high-quality press shop automation and ancillary equipment, we designed and manufactured a set of specialized conveyors for their BSTA 60 High Performance stamping presses. This case study highlights the innovative approach we took to meet Bruderer’s specific requirements for compact and robust belt conveyors.

Project Overview

Bruderer UK approached us with a need for conveyors that could efficiently remove pressing parts from their BSTA 60 High Performance stamping press. The key challenge was to design a system that was compact enough to fit within the press cell yet rugged enough to handle the high demands of the stamping process.

Choosing the KCB 40

After evaluating several options, we selected the KCB 40 compact belt conveyor for this project due to its:

  • Compact Design: Essential for fitting within the limited space of the press cell.
  • Rugged Build: Capable of withstanding the high demands and rigorous environment of the stamping process.

Press Conveyor System Design

The primary purpose of the conveyors was to remove pressed parts from the machine. Given the stringent health and safety regulations, the press and conveyor system were enclosed within custom safety fencing to prevent personnel from accessing potentially hazardous areas. The design required the conveyors to efficiently navigate from the press to an external area, passing through the safety fencing to deposit finished parts into a container, which operators could then replace when full.

Innovative Sliding Mechanism

A critical feature requested by Bruderer UK was the incorporation of a sliding mechanism to give the conveyors a variable length. This innovation allowed the conveyor length to be adjusted to accommodate different types of tools, enhancing the system’s flexibility and improving access around the conveyors. This adaptability was a significant factor in ensuring the conveyors met the varying operational needs of Bruderer’s stamping process.

Successful Implementation

The installation and commissioning of the conveyor system were completed successfully. While the press machinery was the primary driver of performance improvements, the conveyors played a vital role in ensuring the overall system was functional, efficient, and user-friendly. The compact belt conveyors we provided not only met but exceeded Bruderer UK’s expectations, contributing to a streamlined and safer production process.
